Why would a gorilla hold a fish under its arm

l recently went to a zoo and there was a famous statue of a gorilla holding 
Monk
a big fish under its arm l have researched this but l cant find an answer

The gorilla was called Guy and was a famous resident of the zoo  
myn
for many years. he was 32 when he died in 1978 and his stuffed body is on

Gorillas are vegetarian, so the fish is purely symbolic.
